A bit foggy

After the blast of insane cold and ice we had earlier in the week I’m definitely looking forward to sunny skies and warmer temperatures as forecast for later today.  Perfect for that afternoon refreshing beverage in the sun at your favorite spot. But first we’ll have to get through the this morning’s fog. And dang… Continue reading A bit foggy

I Love Parades

We made a special 2nd trip down to Smithville yesterday to soak up some more of the divine small town atmosphere—and watch a parade! I absolutely love love love parades. Time permitting I’ll go out of my way to witness such spectacles. I’m not sure why, but each one I attend is unique and always… Continue reading I Love Parades

Day Trip: Smithville, Texas

Renovated, affordable, and gorgeous homes with front porches, rocking chairs, in a tree-shaded historical district lining the usually sleepy Colorado River, barely 45 minutes from Austin’s Bergstrom Airport. From the lovely neighborhood one can walk to downtown where new restaurants, refreshing beverage and loungy establishments, galleries, antique and bric-a-brac shops, coffee shops, bakeries, and what-not are popping up. Sophistimakated craft cocktails,… Continue reading Day Trip: Smithville, Texas

I recall being scared to death at the first sight of having to swim in the river, as I had only… Continue reading Guadalupe River memories…

Padre Island memories prior to Harvey’s arrival

Hurricane Harvey is approaching the Corpus Christi area this evening as I write this.  My wife and I visited the region two years ago on a quick weekend trip, as I had not been to this part of Texas since I was a child, and my wife was eager to breathe some sea air. We visited… Continue reading Padre Island memories prior to Harvey’s arrival

I was up early this morning.

Had to take my folks to the airport at 5:45 AM. Decided to stop downtown on the way back to get in a good walk around the lake before the sun was out in force. One of my favorite things to do on weekend mornings in Austin is hike or bike around the Ann and Roy Butler Hike… Continue reading I was up early this morning.

Changing light

One thing for sure about Big Bend National Park, and west Texas in general, is the quickly changing color of the sky and land at dusk. The mood and color of your surroundings will shift within minutes at almost anytime of the year. I shot this on New Year’s Eve 2015 on our way out of the… Continue reading Changing light
